Bruno of Merseburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bruno von Merseburg († in August 1036 ; also: Bruno von Magdeburg , Bruno Saxonicus ; Latinized Bruno Merseburgensis ) was Thietmar von Merseburg's successor from 1019 until his death, Bishop of the Merseburg diocese .

Life

Bruno von Merseburg was probably of Saxon origin. In 1007, Bruno was already a cleric witness of a settlement between Archbishop Willigis of Mainz and Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim about the Gandersheim monastery , which Heinrich II himself arbitrated.

The Merseburg Cathedral was consecrated in 1021 by Bruno in the presence of Heinrich II. The king made rich gifts to the diocese, not least because of its strategic importance for his Ostmark . His successor Konrad II held two court days in Merseburg in 1032 and 1033 with the same intention .

In 1027 Bruno von Merseburg took part in the national synod in Frankfurt .
