Bubikerhaus (or Bubikonerhaus ) is the name of the Herrenberg  44 property in Rapperswil , a district of the Swiss municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen .

location

The Bubikerhaus is located at the upper end of Herrenberg in Rapperswil, west of Engelplatz and east of Lindenhof , in the immediate vicinity of the Breny property and the city museum in the old town of Rapperswil .

Building history

The building could have been built as early as the second half of the 13th century and was probably planned to reinforce the north-eastern city fortifications . The first mentioned house on the Herrenberg in a document of 11 February 1303 " on the front Mentage sant Walentinstage " in order to confirm Burgrecht the Johanniter Coming Bubikon . Countess  Elisabeth von Rapperswil , « Hienrich der Amman , Schultheiss von Rapperswil, Cunrat der Truchseze , Peter and Werenher von Ranbach, Jo. Ganlunstein, R. von Hasele, H. Ekol, Ul. Sneph, Berchtolt the Lion and the Council of Rapperswil certify that the Johanniter von Bubikon are kept as free citizens of Rapperswil, although they have lent their house on the Herrenberg in Rapperswil to Heinrich Amman and his wife Gierinun. »According to this document, home ownership was a prerequisite for citizenship in Rapperswil, and the house had to be inhabited by the citizen.

The west side of the three-story building, opposite the Herrenberg primary school, is decorated with a fresco of a Johanniter . The painting with the coat of arms of the Kommende, created on the occasion of the renovation in 1927, indicates the former purpose: until 1798 the building served as the office of the Johanniter-Kommende in Bubikon; today it is a residential building.

The property is a listed building and was renovated in 1927 and 1975.
