The Buccoo Reef Trust BRT is a non-profit nature conservation organization in Trinidad and Tobago that is committed to protecting the Buccoo coral reef off the coast of Bon Accord on Tobago and promoting sustainable development of the underwater world and the coasts.

history

As Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) for Marine Affairs, Gerald McFarlane hired the Institute for Marine Affairs (IMA) to investigate the reefs around Tobago and develop a management plan for the Buccoo Reef. In 1994 he arranged a trip to Maine, USA, to study the aquaculture and marine laboratories of the facilities there. Together with Gerald and Rich Langton, he then set up the Buccoo Reef Trust. The former colonial power of Trinidad, Great Britain, supports the foundation financially through the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission in London.
