The Cape Town Book Fair ( English Cape Town Book Fair , shortly CTBF) is a book fair in South Africa . It is a joint venture between the South African publishers association PASA and the Frankfurt Book Fair .

The first book fair took place from June 17-20, 2006 at the Cape Town International Convention Center in Cape Town . Under the motto “Celebrate Africa” the main objective was to present books in African languages. There were exhibitors from over 20 countries.

In 2007 there were 350 exhibitors from 25 countries. In the following years the number of exhibitors fell significantly to 293 exhibitors (2008), 274 exhibitors (2009) and 273 exhibitors (2010). In the same period, the number of visitors fell from almost 50,000 to around 33,500.

In 2009, the previous manager Vanessa Badroodien was replaced; Claudia Kaiser temporarily took over her post from the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The Cape Town Book Fair planned for 2011 was canceled, and from 2012 the fair should only take place every two years and in a different form.
