Writing the Bab on the first letter of the living, Mulla Husayn

Letters of the living ( Arabic حروف الحي Ḥurūf al-Ḥayy ) was a title which the Bab bestowedon the first Babis . The Bab bestowed this title on 18 Babis and is even counted in some lists as the 19th letter of the living. All the letters of the living were appointed between May 1844, when the Bab publicly declared his mission, and October 1844, when the Bab returned from his pilgrimage from Mecca . Other Babis like Baha'u'llah or Subh-i-Azal , who later professed Babism, were no longer designated as Letters of the Living. Most of the letters of the living died before the declaration of Baha'u'llah and the beginning of the Baha'i religion.
