Ignasi Guardans Cambó (born May 18, 1964 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan politician and former member of the European Parliament .

He is a member of the Catalan party Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC), which in 1978 merged with the Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC) to form the Convergència i Unió (CiU).

Guardans Cambó holds a doctorate in law and is a university professor. From 1988 to 1992 he was professor of private international law at the University of Navarra , then until 1996 in Barcelona and at the Centro de Estudios Abat Oliba. He has been practicing law in Barcelona since 1993.

In 1995 Guardans Cambó moved into the Catalan regional parliament before he was a member of the Spanish parliament from 1996 to 2004 . There he was spokesman for his party in various committees (Mixed Committee for the European Union, Foreign Committee, Committee on Education and Culture). In addition, Guardans Cambó was a member of the Conférence des Organes spécialisés en Affaires communautaires (COSAC), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the Assembly of the Western European Union until 2004 .

In the 2004 European elections , Guardans Cambó was able to win a seat in the European Parliament. There he was deputy chairman of the committee on international trade, member of the delegation for relations with the countries of southern Europe, as well as deputy member of the committees for civil liberties, justice and home affairs and for culture and education , as well as in the delegation for relations with the United States. In his group, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe , Guardans Cambó was Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the International Trade Working Group (INTA).

On April 22, 2009, he left the European Parliament to take over the Directorate General for Film in the Spanish Ministry of Culture at the request of the Spanish Minister of Culture Ángeles González-Sinde . This collaboration with the socialist-led government under José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was not without controversy within the party; the CDC youth organization even called for Guardans to be expelled from the party.

After a temporary position as director of public relations and member relations at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva (2011-2012), he went to Brussels in 2012, where he has since worked as chairman and managing director of the non-commercial agency CUMEDIAE, which deals with the financial support of Takes care of cultural and media projects.
