description

A British Buffalo with cage armor, Afghanistan 2012

While the South African Casspir is a two-axle mine-protected vehicle, the Buffalo is three-axle with the drive formula 6 × 6. The Buffalo belongs to category III for MRAP vehicles. The Casspir and Buffalo have a V-shaped central part of the underside of the body to protect the crew. The force of an explosion is thus deflected to the side. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with an additional cage (so-called slat armor ) on the turret and hull, which protects the Buffalo against shaped charge projectiles such as those fired by the RPG-7 anti-tank weapon .

The Buffalo is equipped with a crane arm, which is used to clear unconventional explosive devices and incendiary devices .

The Buffalo is used by the armed forces of France , Italy , Mexico , Canada , the United Kingdom, and the United States .

The Buffalo in the media

The Buffalo made an appearance in the movie Transformers , in which it served as the vehicle shape for the Decepticon Bonecrusher. The producers of the film were impressed by the large gripper arm that can be seen on the manufacturer's website, and were downright disappointed when they learned that it was merely an image manipulation. A dummy therefore had to be built especially for the film. Force Protection Industries, for its part, advertised it by participating in the film.
