The Buffon Islands ( French Îles Buffon ) are a group of three neighboring rocky islands . They extend over a length of 400 m and lie 160 m east of the Pétrel Island in the Géologie archipelago .
French scientists mapped them in 1951 during a research expedition that lasted from 1949 to 1951. They named the islands after the French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon (1707–1788).
