Bui National Park

The Bui National Park is a national park in the Bono Region of Ghana . The park is in close proximity to the Ivory Coast border . With its size of 2200 km² it is the third largest national park in Ghana and is traversed by the Black Volta .

Like Mole National Park in Ghana, Bui National Park is located in the tree savannah . The park has a good population of buffalo , leopard and elephant, as well as many species of monkeys . The section of the Volta that flows through the park is also home to larger groups of hippos .

There were plans according to which the Bui National Park should be significantly expanded for tourism. However, a dam was completed around 2012 that flooded a large part of the park. The hippos have therefore migrated to the flatter river course in the north. The park has lost its value for tourism.
