The Bono Region is a region in Ghana with the capital Sunyani . Their name is derived from the kingdom of Bono .

geography

The region lies in the west of the country and is bordered by the Savannah Region in the north, the Bono East Region and Ashanti Region in the east, the Ahafo Region in the southeast, the Western North Region in the south and the Ivory Coast in the west. With an area of ​​11,107 km², it is also in the middle of the range of Ghana's regions, measured by its population.

history

The Bono Region is the renamed remainder of the Brong-Ahafo Region after the Bono East Region and Ahafo Region split off on February 13, 2019. As the only one of the four regions that split off in 2019, it was given a new name and a new ISO-3166-2 abbreviation.
