The Bono East Region is a region in Ghana with the capital Techiman . Their name is derived from the kingdom of Bono .

geography

The region lies in the middle of the country and borders the Savannah Region in the north, the Oti Region in the east, the Eastern Region and the Ashanti Region in the south, and the Bono Region in the west. With an area of ​​23,257 km², it is the fourth largest region in Ghana, but in terms of population it is in the middle.

In the east it borders on the Volta reservoir .

history

The Bono East Region is one of the six newly established regions in the country in February 2019. It was an election promise made by the New Patriotic Party for the 2016 election to create new regions. In a referendum on December 27, 2018, 99.5% of the voters were in favor of the formation of the new region, so that it was founded on February 13, 2019 with the Constitutional Instrument 113 as a spin-off from the Brong-Ahafo region .
