The Atebubu-Amantin District is a district in Ghana . It is located in the center of Ghana in the Bono East region and was only created by decree of John Agyekum Kufuor on November 12, 2003 from the Atebubu District .

The Atebubu-Amantin District borders the Sene , Pru and Nkoranza districts . The district is also bordered by the Ashanti region and thus the districts of Ejura Sekyedumase and Sekyere West . The chief executive of the 6,720 km² district is Cassius Osei-Poku , based in the district capital Atebubu .

geography

The north-western foothills of the Volta reservoir extend into the district and form an important ecological and logistical factor.

economy

The majority of the population in Atebubu-Amantin lives from subsistence agriculture . Mainly staple foods like yams , cassava , rice and beans are grown.

A total of 63.3 percent of the working-age population work in agriculture. Another 19 percent work in retail and six percent in industry. The district generates a large surplus of food which is sold in the national trade. The main customer is traditionally the area around the city of Yeji , whose residents are mostly fishermen. A significant problem in the food trade is the insufficient availability of storage facilities and cold stores.

The district is said to have gold deposits in the areas around the towns of Prang , Konkoma and Parambo .

Infrastructure

A significant part of the traffic in the district runs through the Volta reservoir and the area around the city of Yeji, which is well developed for shipping . The port of Yeji is also an important trading post for Tamaledie , the capital of the Northern Region . There are roads running through the entire district that are generally not very well developed and are difficult to pass, especially in the rainy season.

Post offices have been set up in the three largest cities of Atebubu, Yeji and Prang. A smaller postal agency was opened in Amaten. The three largest cities mentioned are also connected to the fixed telecommunications network. In the district are the Agricultural Development Bank in Atebubu, the Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd. in Yeji, the Kasei / Amanten Community Bank in Amanten and the Yapra Rural Bank with branches in Atebubu, Yeji and Abease.

The district is supplied with water through wells, boreholes, hand pumps, rivers and streams.

Education and health

With the Atebubu Government Hospital in the district capital Atebubu and the St. Matthias Catholic Hospital in Yeji, two larger hospitals are available in the district. Another three rural clinics, three health centers, four private birthing centers and four smaller urban clinics are entrusted with health care.

A total of four senior secondary schools have been set up in the cities of Atebubu, Amanten, Prang and Yeji. There is also a training center for teachers in Atebubu. A total of 50 kindergartens, 130 primary schools and 32 junior secondary schools are available in the district at state educational institutions. There are also four private kindergartens, six primary schools and two junior secondary schools.

An interdenominational vocational school was founded in Prang in 2001. It goes back to a joint initiative of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong and the "Association for the Promotion of Mission in the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong" in Pfronten (Germany). The name “St. Nikolaus Vocational Institute “goes back to the supporting parish of St. Nikolaus (Pfronten) , which is closely linked to the Ghana aid association just mentioned and from which it emerged. The Vocational Institute is recognized by the state, but receives no financial or material support from the state.

The school is financed exclusively from the students' school fees and funds from the Pfrontener Ghana-Aid. The students receive training in home economics, tailoring or office work. All students receive instruction in mathematics and English.

Constituencies

A constituency of the same name was set up in Atebubu-Amatin District, which Emmanuel Owusu-Mainu from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could win as a direct candidate in the parliamentary elections in 2004 .
