The Ahafo Region is a region in Ghana with the capital Goaso . Their name is derived from the Ahafo ethnic group .
geography
The region lies in the west of the country and is bordered by the Bono Region in the north, the Ashanti Region in the east and the Western North Region in the southwest. With an area of 5,193 km², it is the second smallest region in Ghana and is third from last with around 600,000 inhabitants (as of 2019).
history
The Ahafo region is one of the six newly founded regions in the country in February 2019. It was an election promise made by the New Patriotic Party for the 2016 election to create new regions. In a referendum on December 27, 2018, 99.68% of the voters were in favor of the formation of the new region, so that it was founded on February 13, 2019 with the Constitutional Instrument 114 as a spin-off from the Brong-Ahafo region .
