Bechem is a place in the Ahafo region in the West African state of Ghana . In 2006 there were 12,591 inhabitants in Bechem. In the 2000 census, Bechem still had a population of 8,800. Estimates for 2007 assume a population of 14,921.

It was the capital of the former Tano District until 2004 , but by decree of President John Agyekum Kufuor of November 12, 2003, it was divided into the Tano North and Tano South districts in 2004 . Bechem has since been the capital of the Tano South district.

In addition to the usual school concept, a school for the hearing impaired was set up in Bechem.
