Tano District

The Tano District is a former district in the Brong-Ahafo Region in Ghana , which was dissolved in 2018, with the district capital Bechem . By decree of November 12, 2003 by President John Agyekum Kufuor , it was divided into the two new districts Tano North District and Tano South District , which have belonged to the Ahafo region since 2019, as part of the 2004 administrative reform .

Tano had a population of 123,339 in an area of ​​1,267 km² at the 2000 census. In the 1960, 1970 and 1984 census, there were 44,692, 57,662 and 92,553 people in Tano District. In 2000, the census showed a population of 123,404, which at the time made up 6.8 percent of the total population of the Brong-Ahafo region . Between 1984 and 2000 the population increased by 33.3 percent.

In 1960 the population was still living at a density of 29.8 people per km². In 1970 there were 38.4 people, in 1984 61.7 people and finally in 2000 82.2 people. In 1960 37.3 percent of the population lived in urban centers. That number rose to 46.9 percent by 1970, but fell back to 41.2 percent in 1984.
