The Berekum Municipal District is a district in the center of Ghana in the Bono Region . It borders the districts of Jaman North , Tain , Sunyani West , Dormaa East , Dormaa Municipal and Jaman South - all in the Bono region . Chief executive over the 955 km² district with approx. 83,661 inhabitants is Kwabena Kyere Yeboa with its seat in the district capital Berekum .

Until 1989, the Berekum District was part of the much larger Berekum-Jaman District , which was divided by presidential decree into the Jaman District (which in turn was divided in 2003) and the Berekum District.

Half-green wet forest grows over the entire district with some hardwoods that are important for the export industry, such as the Odum tree , Wawa and Kyenkyen .

The Berekum District is drained by numerous rivers such as the Amomaso, Awasu, Kyimina and Kora.

Constituencies

A constituency of the same name was set up in the Berekum district. In the constituency, Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey won a seat in the Ghanaian parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2004 general election.
