Johanna Hesse , actually: Johanna Zapf , also Rosl Zapf (born February 20, 1880 in Berlin ; † November 1958 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German opera and concert singer (soprano).

Life

After her vocal training in Berlin, she was initially a concert singer, but in 1919 she was engaged as a soprano at the Staatstheater Darmstadt . Here she performed until 1922 and sang z. B. the role of "Judith" in Reznicek's opera "Ritter Blaubart" (from 1920). Guest performances at the Semperoper in Dresden , the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the Leipzig Opera House followed .

Hesse had great success in Wagner games. In 1923/1924 she made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera as well as at the opera houses in Cologne and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main . From 1925 she gave numerous Wagner concerts. Until 1933 she was part of the ensemble of the theater in Bonn . After the National Socialists came to power , she had to end her stage career prematurely as a Jew .

Her grave is in the chapel cemetery in Bad Kissingen.
