The Wenchi District is a district in Ghana . It is located in the center of Ghana in the Bono region . It borders the Tain and Sunyani Municipal Districts in the Bono Region, Kintampo South and Techiman Municipal in the Bono East Region, and the Offinso District in the Ashanti Region .
The Wenchi District was the largest district of the Brong-Ahafo Region, which was dissolved in 2018, until 2003 . The former Wenchi district was 4,939 km² in size and had 166,633 inhabitants in 2002. It was only divided into the smaller new Wenchi district and the Tain district by presidential decree of November 12, 2003 in 2004.
Constituencies
A constituency of the same name has been set up in the Wenchi district. Here Prof. George Yaw Gyan-Baffour won the seat in the Ghanaian parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the parliamentary elections in 2004.
