Bujan (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bujan Island by Ivan Bilibin .

In Slavic mythology , Bujan (Буя́н) is a mysterious island in the ocean that appears and disappears at will. It is inhabited by three brothers - north wind, west wind and east wind. Strange things are happening on this island. Koschtschei the Deathless keeps his soul here in a needle.

Bujan is partly interpreted as a Proto-Indo-European Otherworld and partly as the Slavic name of an actual island, probably Rügen .
