The 262  acres (1.1  square kilometers ) comprehensive nature reserve Bullitt Reservation is located near the town of Ashfield in the northwest of the State of Massachusetts of the United States . It is managed by The Trustees of Reservations organization and is accessible free of charge.

history

The area of ​​today's protected area was formerly part of the 365 acres (1.5 km²) property owned by US diplomat William C. Bullitt and his daughter Anne. For many years, the family used the area consisting of forests, meadows and rivers as a retreat during the summer months. In March 2009, the William C. Bullitt Foundation transferred the 262 acres (1.1 km²) section to the Trustees of Reservations in order to preserve it and make it accessible to the public.

Protected area

The area in the Pioneer Valley consists of a mixture of fields, farm buildings, forest areas and rivers and is part of a large number of protected, contiguous land areas with a total size of over 3,000 acres (12.1 km²). On the open spaces to red deer and bears are seen as butterflies to orchids circle. The state-protected animal and plant species also live in the reserve. The Poland Brook further provides a variety of fish , freshwater plants and insect habitat.
