CIMB

CIMB is a Malaysian bank holding company. It operates as a universal bank in both private and business customer business and as an investment bank.

CIMB is active in 18 countries, in 2015 79% of the profit ( pre-tax profit ) was generated in Malaysia.

history

In 1974 the Malaysian government founded the Pertanian Baring Sanwa Multinational Bank (PBSM). In 1986 this was taken over by the Bank of Commerce and renamed Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad (CIMB).

In 1991 the Bank of Commerce and United Asian Bank merged to form Commerce-Asset Holding Berhad (CAHB), into which CIMB is incorporated as a subsidiary. In 1999 the Bank of Commerce (Malaysia) Berhad merged with the Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad to form Bumiputra Commerce Bank Berhad .

In 2002 a majority stake in the Indonesian PT Bank Niaga was acquired. In 2003, CIMB went public. In 2005 the sister company Bumiputra-Commerce Bank was taken over by the Holding CAHB.

From 2008 to 2015, subsidiaries were acquired or established in all countries in Southeast Asia . In 2012, CIMB acquired several business units in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and Taiwan from the Royal Bank of Scotland .
