Federal Environment Competition
The Federal Environment Competition ( BUW for short ) is a nationwide school competition in the field of the environment and nature conservation. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is the sponsor. The competition is organized by the IPN - Leibniz Institute for Science Education .
Participants
The federal environmental competition is held in two age groups for 10 to 16 year olds (BUW I) and 17 to 20 year olds (BUW II). Every year around 1000 participants with around 300 projects take part in the competition.
BUW I and BUW II
The BUW is about examining a question of one's own choice that is relevant to the environment. The focus can be on nature, ecology, climate, economy, society, consumption, technology, health or culture. The spiritual guide should be "From knowledge to sustainable action". Some selected projects are invited to a presentation in Kiel every year.
You can participate as an individual, in a small group of up to 6 people (BUW II) or in a project group with up to 20 participants (BUW II).
In the BUW, an environmental problem from one's own environment should first be examined for its causes. Then it's about looking for possible solutions and at least partially implementing them.
Prices
Successful participants will be rewarded with cash or material prizes and certificates in September. There are also internships and participation in seminars at research institutions to be won. In addition, you can be proposed for the selection process of the German National Academic Foundation .
