Federal Commissioner for Community Service

The Federal Commissioner for Civilian Service was up to the suspension of compulsory military service and civilian service of the Commissioner of the Government for the civil service or the alternative civilian service in Germany .

The Federal Commissioner for alternative civilian service had its seat from 1970 in the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and was directly subordinate to a State Secretary. He was appointed on the proposal of the responsible minister. From January 1, 1976, he was named Federal Commissioner for Community Service. Responsibility passed to the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth on October 1, 1981 . The Federal Commissioner and his "Community Service" team prepared the necessary legislation and issued statutory ordinances, guidelines, administrative regulations and implementation provisions. The Federal Ministry exercised the technical, legal and official supervision of the Federal Office for Civil Service (from May 3, 2011: Federal Office for Family and Civil Society Tasks ). Just like civil service, the Federal Commissioner has not been abolished, but can be legally activated again at any time. His term of office was declared ended by law on December 31, 2011.
