Hans Iven

Hans Iven (born March 25, 1928 in Birkesdorf ; † April 15, 1997 in Düren ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Iven completed an apprenticeship as a machinist at the Jülich railway repair shop . He had worked as a volunteer in the union since 1946, had been secretary of the German Railway Workers Union since 1951 and in the same year became an employee of the DGB district committee in Düren . From 1956 he was the executive chairman of the DGB district committee in Düren-Jülich. From April 16, 1970 to 1983, he was the first federal commissioner for community service .

In 1982 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Political party

Iven joined the SPD in 1946 and built up a local group of falcons . In the discussion about a union with the KPD , Iven was one of the opponents of a merger. From 1952 to 1954 he was chairman of the SPD local association in Düren. In the 1970s he held the office again. In 1958 he was elected SPD district chairman and from 1960 to 1971 he was chairman of the SPD sub-district Düren-Jülich- Monschau - Schleiden .

MP

Iven had been a councilor for the city of Düren since 1956, was elected to the district council of Düren in the same year and was spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group there. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1969. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .
