Jens Kreuter

Jens Kreuter (born May 23, 1965 in Landshut ) is a German theologian and lawyer. From 2006 to 2011 he was federal commissioner for community service . Kreuter is currently the managing director of Engagement Global .

Life

Jens Kreuter passed his Abitur in 1985 in Wuppertal . He then completed his community service in Nes Ammim in Israel until the end of 1986 , before studying Protestant theology and law in Wuppertal , Bern , at the Catechetical College in Naumburg (Saale) (then GDR) and in Heidelberg . He finished his studies with a doctorate . He wrote his doctoral thesis at the University of Heidelberg with Wolfgang Huber on “State crime and the limits of criminal law” in dealing with human rights crimes in National Socialism, South Africa , Vietnam and the GDR . He completed his legal clerkship at the Mosbach Regional Court and the church vicariate at the Evangelical Kreuzkirche in Bonn .

After a year of parental leave, he worked from 2001 as a consultant for social and socio-political issues in the church office of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and in 2006 as a personal assistant to the head of the Lower Saxony State Chancellery . In 2006 he was appointed to succeed Dieter Hackler as Federal Commissioner for Community Service at the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth . In the course of the suspension of military and community service, he was entrusted in 2012 with the establishment of the federal voluntary service and subsequently with ministerial responsibility for all voluntary services.

Since February 1, 2015, he has been Managing Director of Engagement Global, an institution of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Jens Kreuter is married to Prof. Dr. Charlotte Kreuter-Kirchhof , daughter of the constitutional lawyer Paul Kirchhof .
