Federal German
Federal German is a term for everything that affects the Federal Republic of Germany or its citizens .
In the years before German reunification in 1990, this designation led to the linguistic distinction between "GDR-German" and " GDR citizens ". They were not only anchored in language usage in the GDR .
In the historical context, on the other hand, is the term " Reichsdeutsche " or Reichsbürger (citizens of the German Reich ) from the period from 1871 to 1945. In particular, the Germans who lived outside the Reich, i.e. were not Reich citizens, called the Germans within the Reich.
In the rest of the German-speaking area ( Austria , German-speaking Switzerland , South Tyrol , Liechtenstein , Luxembourg , Ostbelgien , etc.), the term Federal German is used to denote the standard German spoken in Germany before and after reunification . It is used to differentiate between Austrian German and Swiss Standard German . As an adjective, "Federal German" also describes everything else (objects, people, ideas) that comes from the Federal Republic of Germany.
