The Federal Association of Eating Disorders e. V. is the professional association of outpatient and inpatient facilities for counseling and treatment of patients with eating disorders, founded in 1994 , based in Munich-Lehel . It includes clinics, residential groups, counseling centers, resident therapists and nutritionists nationwide. The office of executive chairman of the board is held by the Munich graduate psychologist and psychotherapist Andreas Schnebel , also therapeutic director and co-founder of ANAD e. V. The Federal Association of Eating Disorders e. V. supports opportunities and risks in eating disorder research and related science policy, placing the possibilities and limits of interaction with both those affected and their relatives in a social context. In doing so, social, ethical and legal limits should not be seen as an obstacle, but rather set a reliable framework for future developments. Another special meaning is the conveyance of specialist and orientation knowledge in the form of training and further education or the development of competencies to shape future perspectives and to align them both for those affected and for therapists.

Furthermore, the association is responsible for putting scientific knowledge and know-how from experience into practice and exchanging them by means of international networking in order to be able to do professional public relations work on the subject of eating disorders, among other things. In support of this, projects are appraised and congresses are organized that focus on this topic.

For the therapy process, the Federal Association of Eating Disorders e. V. nationwide clinics, residential groups and advice centers as well as established therapists and nutritionists are connected. The guidelines for counseling and outpatient therapy for eating disorders set up by the association apply to treatment . This is particularly about advising those affected and their relatives, both outpatient and inpatient therapy and outpatient aftercare.

The Federal Association of Eating Disorders has existed since 1994. V. and is made up of around 150 non-profit organizations such as specialist psychosomatic clinics, therapeutic residential groups, outpatient counseling and therapy facilities as well as psychotherapeutic practices and nutritionists.

During the mostly two-day general meetings, which take place twice a year, nationwide networks are formed, in which the members exchange ideas with one another, both professionally and on current topics. Innovative treatment concepts are presented in specialist lectures and presentations, qualified training courses take place and technical support from experts is offered. In addition, one takes a position on current projects and develops improvement concepts within the scope of quality control and assurance.

Guidelines for counseling and treatment

One from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs funded study on quality assurance of counseling and outpatient treatment of eating disorders was conducted by the Federal Association of eating disorders in the year of 2005. This resulted in the guidelines for counseling and outpatient treatment of eating disorders for its member institutions.

In the guidelines, the term eating disorders , the mostly psychosocial causes, the effects and the addressees are first clearly outlined and delimited. The terms treatment and counseling in connection with eating disorders are also defined and the professional supply chain is presented. Furthermore, counseling and treatment methods of various types and their significance are shown, with a distinction being made between low-threshold, short-term and long-term offers. It also describes when and how relatives can be included in the treatment.

Integrated care

The integrated care in Bavaria represents a competence network that offers professional services in the area of ​​eating disorders. Affected persons, relatives and payers are cared for in a closed treatment chain; the financing is provided by the health insurance companies involved. The offer ranges from the diagnosis of symptoms to the preparation of individual treatment plans and implementation of these. This package enables fast and targeted therapy with cooperation partners such as clinics, psychotherapists and assisted living groups.

In Hesse, a supply contract with the Forum for Eating Disorders Wiesbaden applies to integrated care between the regional association of company health insurance funds South and Barmer GEK , in which psychotherapy and outpatient treatment concepts for those affected and their relatives are regulated. Clinics and resident doctors are interdisciplinary networked. The goals here are to optimize therapeutic success, to offer individual therapies such as nutritional advice, body awareness training and exercise therapy, to ensure better networking between inpatient care and rehabilitation, and to stabilize relapse prevention.
