Please note the note on the applicable legal version.

The Federal Equal Opportunities Act (BGleiG) is a German federal law that aims to achieve equality between women and men in federal agencies and companies. The law is also intended to eliminate existing discrimination based on gender, in particular discrimination against women, and prevent future discrimination, and improve family-friendliness and the compatibility of family, care and work for women and men. The departments and companies of the Federation are obliged by the law, equal opportunity commissioner to order and equality plans set up. The law replaces the Equal Opportunities Enforcement Act (DGleiG), which came into force on November 30, 2001.

The law applies exclusively to the federal administration and to federal companies and courts , not to the private sector. The federal states have passed their own equality laws for their administrative authorities and courts.

The forerunner of the law was the Women's Promotion Act of June 24, 1994.
