Changes to the division of responsibilities

Since the Federal Ministries Act 1986 not only defines the number of ministries but also their precise areas of responsibility, every change in the allocation of departments within the federal government must be made by law. The 1986 Federal Ministries Act is therefore regularly amended after the coalition negotiations have been concluded. Even after resignations and new appointments of government members, an amendment is occasionally made to adapt the distribution of tasks to the new government team.
