Federal Foundation Mother and Child

The Federal Foundation for Mother and Child , long form Federal Foundation for Mother and Child - Protection of Unborn Life , is a foundation under public law based in Bonn . She helps pregnant women in financial distress with grants to facilitate the continuation of the pregnancy and the care of the toddler. In particular, the necessary basic equipment (e.g. cot, wardrobe, changing table, baby bath, stroller, children's clothing), the continuation of the household, the apartment and furnishings as well as the care of the toddler are funded. Foundation benefits cannot be attached , and they are not taken into account as income when receiving other social benefits such as unemployment benefit II .

The foundation was established on July 15, 1984 on the basis of the law to establish a foundation “Mother and Child - Protection of Unborn Life” , introduced by the then Family Minister Heiner Geißler . The 50 million DM originally made available per year have been increased several times. The new federal states have also received benefits from the foundation since 1993. The management tasks of the Federal Foundation, which are affiliated with the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, were shifted to the Berlin department in 2007.

The foundation, to whose benefits there is no entitlement to benefits, does not pay directly to the women concerned, but to the state foundations for women and families in need and similar central associations in the federal states. In Bavaria, Berlin, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, the state foundations also help with their own foundation funds.

In 2009 the foundation had financial resources of 97 million euros. Up to the 25th anniversary in 2009, around 150,000 women were supported by the foundation with an average of 600 euros.
