The Federal Association of Community Management e. V. for digital communication & social media was founded in 2008 and represents the interests of professionals in community management and social media as well as other professions related to digital communication. The BVCM has set itself the goal of further professionalising the job profiles of community managers, corporate community managers and social media managers and creating a corresponding awareness for them in the economy. This includes the recognition of the job description as training according to §4 and §5 of the German Vocational Training Act .

The BVCM is known for the definition of job profiles, nationwide studies on the job profiles of community management and social media management, and the publication of an official definition of the term community management . As part of the development and design of the professional and examination profile, the BVCM offers independent certificate programs for community managers and social media managers.
