The Bundeswehr-Sozialwerk e. V. (BwSW) is a German non-profit association .

history

The BwSW was founded on May 20, 1960 by the then Federal Defense Minister Franz Josef Strauss and 20 soldiers and civilian employees of the Bundeswehr . The minister also assumed the patronage . It belongs to the social works of the federal administration , which work together in a working group.

aims

The association has 117,961 members (as of December 9, 2015) and performs tasks of social, health, sporting and cultural care for members of the Bundeswehr and their families. For this purpose, the BwSW maintains numerous hotels, houses, holiday apartments and campsites in Germany and neighboring Europe. The focus is on mother / father-child camps, children's camps, youth camps, international youth camps / language trips, camps for young people, family-friendly camps (some with child care), family camps, cultural trips for adults, senior camps and camps for disabled people. The BwSW works with the social services of the other federal ministries and the social services of the friendly armed forces (CLIMS).

The “Problem children campaign of the Bundeswehr-Sozialwerk”, founded in 1973, supports not only leisure time for disabled people, but also through targeted individual help. The “Problem children in Bw families of the BwSW” campaign is financed almost exclusively through donations. As part of family care for relatives of soldiers deployed abroad and civilian employees of the Bundeswehr, the BwSW works closely with the family care centers of the associations and the social advisors of the Bundeswehr. It is also committed to helping soldiers and their families who are injured or wounded on missions abroad. The surviving dependents of soldiers who died on missions abroad receive a special allowance .

Members and employees

Anyone who is or was in the service of the Bundeswehr and children of members can become a member of the BwSW. Other persons can only become members of the BwSW upon application and by resolution of the federal executive committee. The membership fee is currently 4 euros per month (as of January 1, 2019). The association magazine “Unser Bundeswehr-Sozialwerk e. V. “The Bundeswehr-Sozialwerk mainly works with voluntary, honorary and unpaid employees. The divisional management and the federal management are part of the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr (BAPersBw). The highest body of the BwSW is the Federal Assembly. Like the departmental and regional assemblies, it meets every 4 years.
