Federal Administration Social Services

The federal administration's social works are registered non-profit associations that perform tasks of social, health, sporting and cultural care for federal employees and their relatives. In particular, they offer vacation options, including trips for children and young people.
History and meaning
The federal administration's social works were founded in the late 1950s and early 1960s as self-help institutions for federal employees. According to its own information, the social work of the internal administration alone has more than 22,000 members. The Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Sozialwerke looks after 190,000 members and their family members, a total of approx. 475,000 people in German and foreign federal agencies. The social welfare institutions are not only open to the named group of people, but also to non-members for a slightly higher fee. The recreation center Post Postbank Telekom eV , the holiday provider for active and former employees of Deutsche Post AG, Deutsche Postbank AG and Deutsche Telekom AG, has a similar function .

Financing and promotion of social services
The social welfare organizations are financed through fees for overnight stays or events (such as language trips), through membership fees (2.90 euros per month) and through federal funding measures. According to a report by NDR magazine Panorama , state subsidies amount to nine million euros per year. In relation to the 750,000 employees and civil servants of the federal government, this corresponds to a grant of 12 euros per year for each employee.
Federal Minister Wolfgang Schäuble has taken over the patronage of the social work of the Federal Finance Administration .
Vacation opportunities in Germany
The social works are holiday facilities owned by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA) and z. Some of them also have their own buildings. In some cases, the federal government has made former accommodation buildings of the Bundeswehr available for the purposes of social welfare organizations, which have been refurbished for the new purpose, including a. on Sylt.
Cooperation partner abroad
The social services work together with partner organizations abroad, so that vacation options, e.g. B. in France or Sweden are possible.
