history

At the beginning of football in Sweden, there were several competing general sports federations that held competing competitions. While on the one hand the Svenska Mästerskapet played by Svenska Idrottsförbundet was dominated mainly by the Gothenburg clubs, the Rosenska Cups arose in Stockholm from the Stockholms Idrottsförbundet .

At the initiative of the Dane Christian Ludvig Kornerup , who was later naturalized, the idea of a nationwide special association came up. After lengthy discussions, Svenska Bollspelsförbundet was founded in April 1902 , initially consisting of AIK , Djurgårdens IF , Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna , IF Sleipner , IF Svithiod and Östermalms SK . In May Clarence von Rosen was elected first chairman of the association and Kornerup became director of the association.

In 1902 the association started its first league format competition, which Djurgårdens IF won after six wins in six games. In addition, the association took over the organization of the Rosenska Cup in autumn that year.

In May 1904, Svenska Bollspelsförbundet was one of the founding members of FIFA. Represented by the Dane Ludvig Sylow , the association approved the establishment of the world association.

In May 1903 the Svenska Gymnastik- och Idrottsföreningarnas riksförbund was established , which initially renounced a football section. However, after Svenska Bollspelsförbundet did not want to subordinate itself, the association founded a corresponding sub-association on May 24, 1904. Nevertheless, it was agreed to work together, so that the Rosenska Cups merged into the Svenska Mästerskapet. The trophy previously awarded as part of the Rosenska Cup, the Von Rosens Cup , has now been awarded to the Swedish champions. After the cooperation was further intensified in the following years, an agreement was reached in the summer on a division of the areas of responsibility. From then on, Svenska Bollspelsförbundet was responsible for hosting the competitive games as part of the Svenska Mästerskapet on behalf of the sub-association.

After disputes, the association disbanded on May 17, 1906 and paved the way for the sub-association, now trading as Svenska Fotbollförbundet , to represent the country as the sole Swedish football association.
