Bunge (trap)

The bunge , drum trap or bucket trap is a trap in the form of a cylindrical net tube that is used in Central European inland fisheries to catch eels , for example . It is given its shape by three rings spanned by the net, the two outer rings of which are held apart by rods along the tube. The specialty of the bunge is that it has a funnel-shaped opening at both ends, in contrast to the more common cone shape with only one opening.

In Central Europe, the bunge is primarily used by laypeople because it is easy to use. Their disadvantage is that eels can escape the trap relatively easily.

The bunge can be used both stationary (with control nets) and from the boat as a throwing fry. It is also particularly suitable for catching crabs .
