The building was built in the Second World War on the former site of the LMG, the Lübecker Maschinenbau Gesellschaft , according to the design by Leo Winkel . The bombs were supposed to ricochet off the high bunker in the shape of a cone . There is a strong offset between the body of the building and the top of the roof, like a neck with a lookout as a tower observer. The nine-storey bunker is free-standing. A sign indicates that it was built by Fr. Brüggemann from Hamborn . The top of the roof is decorated with a small metal flag of the LMG.

Cityscape

The Winkelbau was built near Einsiedelstrasse on the company's own access road not far from the administration building. In adaptation to medieval fortifications, the roof was covered with shingles, from the outside it is made of exposed concrete. If you look across the Trave from the north-western outskirts of the old town to the site of the former LMG, you will discover the bunker as part of the silhouette of the industrial buildings.

history

The air raid shelter was built in 1940 and was designed for 500 employees of the industrial company. After the end of the war, demilitarization was required through demolitions. The bunker was softened by blowing in rectangular openings. The restructuring of the LMG resulted in changes to the use of the site. The bunker remained untouched. Trees obscured the building at times, but have since been cut back very heavily.
