The Bunte Hof is a three-storey half - timbered building in Rössingstrasse in Osterwieck , built between 1579 and 1582. It is part of a building complex that was owned by the von Rössing family until 1847.

history

The von Rössing family had been resident in the area since around 1450, so that a previous building can be assumed. The builder of the Renaissance court, cavalry master and hereditary marshal Ludolf von Rössing (1534–1594), who lived in the Abbey City, also had the Rössinger moated castle built between 1579 and 1589. He is immortalized in the Bunter Hof by an inscription on the north facade. The building can be found on the engraving by Merian from 1641.

In addition to the preserved south wing of the former complex, according to drawings from 1760 and 1780, there was also a west wing (demolished in 1952) and an adjoining three-storey half-timbered building, according to the inscription, built around 1530 (demolished around 1880). A stair tower connected both wings. The no longer preserved half-timbered building is said to be Ludolf's father Lippold III. have been erected. Ludwig Clericus reports on the design in the 19th century.

Various structural changes have taken place over the centuries, as stated in the renovation report, for example: The three-story half-timbered building rests on a basement and plinth made of limestone. The four cellars under the building can be assigned to different construction periods. The western cellars, one with groin vault and an adjoining cellar with a plank ceiling, come from an older construction period before 1579.

From 1770 to 1805 the farm was leased to the Rostosky family of civil servants and served as a preparation institute from 1869 . A brewery, a restaurant and a commercial kitchen were then housed there.
