The Šostýn Castle (German: Schauenstein ; sometimes also called Schawenstein , Scheibstein , Schornstein or Schowenstayn ) is a Gothic castle in the municipality of Kopřivnice , Czech Republic .
history
It was probably built by the Counts of Hückeswagen , who came to Moravia between 1220 and 1240 . According to other sources, it was built in the second half of the 13th century. In the 15th century it was abandoned and dilapidated by its owners. At the beginning of the 19th century, when the castle was owned by the Raška family, most of it was dismantled.
In 1945 it became the property of the State of Czechoslovakia. The most important find is that of a small ivory statue , the so-called Venus de Šostýn .
