The castle Kaiserberg is an Outbound hilltop castle on the Kaiserberg in Duisburg district Duissern , district of Duisburg-center .
history
The city archeology of Duisburg assumes that the strategically important point Kaiserberg must have been fortified as early as the Bronze and Iron Ages .
The remains of trenches and ramparts still bear witness to the fact that the Kaiserberg was fortified at different times and used as a castle complex. For example, a section wall with a trench in front has been preserved. This was probably created in prehistoric times. It is believed that this fortification is related to the Iron Age settlement in the area. Thereafter, the Romans are said to have taken possession of this militarily important place, presumably with an advanced guard post.
The moat system was renewed later because a newer, probably early medieval wall and another moat overlap the old system. This renewal could be related to the expansion of the Kaiserpfalz Duisburg in the 10th century. It is possible that the high rampart built on the main ridge of the Kaiserberg with a sloping ditch in front of it was built at this time .
Not until much later, i.e. H. In modern times , another so-called "castle" with a lookout tower was built on the Kaiserberg. A number of postcards from around 1900 bear witness to this.
