Schildeck Castle

The Schildeck Castle , formerly called the von Schildeck Castle , is an abandoned hilltop castle on a small mountain ledge in the Schneitbachtal , above the Schildmühle about 1200 meters south of Simmersfeld in the Calw district in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle was probably built in the 13th century by Messrs Schildeck, who are attested as a branch of the bailiffs of Wöllhausen, and first mentioned in 1308. In 1350 the Schildecker owned the property to Count Konrad von Hohenberg . At the beginning of the 17th century the castle fell into disrepair.

From the former castle complex on a round castle plateau with a diameter of about 15 meters, the remains of a row of stones and the 17-meter-wide and four to five-meter-deep neck moat have been preserved.
