Burgraviate
The Burggrafiat in Alzey is a three-winged baroque building built around 1700 . Until the end of the 18th century, the building served as the seat of the Electoral Palatinate bailiff and thus as the administrative center of the then Oberamt Alzey (around 100 communities). In this function it replaced the recently destroyed Alzeyer Castle .
In the left wing of the property, the original staircase with baluster railing from the time it was built has been preserved. Today vernissages and exhibitions of regional artists take place regularly under the motto "Art in Burgraviato" . The Alzey open canal and the city library are also housed in the burgraviate .
