The Burgsdorff larch in the Tegeler Forst (district Tegel ) in the Reinickendorf district of Berlin is the tallest tree in Berlin .
history
The European larch ( Larix decidua ) was created in 1795 by the botanist, forest scientist and royal Prussian chief forest master of the Kurmark Brandenburg as well as secret forestry adviser Friedrich August Ludwig von Burgsdorff (1747-1802) on Mühlenweg in the southern part of the Tegeler Forest about 250 meters west of today's Konradshöher Straße planted. He was already active as a forester in the Tegeler Forest in 1777 and created the forest area around the larch predominantly with beeches and oaks.
The tree has not grown in height since the 1930s and has a height of around 43 meters. However, it is getting thicker and thicker and in 2012 the trunk circumference was 2.90 meters. The larch is one of the thickest specimens in Germany.
In 2012, on the occasion of the 60th year of the tree, the tree was measured again in honor of the European larch.
Today the Heiligenseer Weg , the green main route number 3 of the 20 green main routes in the city of Berlin , leads past the larch.
