The Tegel Forest is a 2169  hectare state-owned forest area in the Tegel district of the Reinickendorf district in northwest Berlin . It is a landscape protection area and one of the five major Berlin forests .

location

It extends from the southern part of the Tegelort locality north of Lake Tegel to the northern part south of the Heiligensee district . In this area is the inland dune landscape of the Baumberge . Schulzendorf is located north of the forest .

The Tegeler Forst lies to the east of the Konradshöhe district and is crossed by Konradshöher Strasse and Heiligenseer Strasse.

The Königsweg , the Heiligenseer Weg and the Humboldt-Spur also cross the Tegel Forest, the latter two of which are among the 20 main green routes in Berlin.

Flora and fauna

On the sandy soils grow forestry used wooded areas of pine mixed forests ranging from deciduous forests are interspersed. Currently, the main value of these forest areas lies in the recreational use of the city dwellers. The forest is managed according to the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council and the Naturland Association .

Plant and animal species are protected in the landscape protection area. In particular, the rich population of rare and partly endangered breeding bird species in the northern area of ​​the Tegeler Forest is to be secured.

Others

The largest tree in Berlin, the Burgsdorff larch , is in the southern part of the Tegel Forest. The oldest tree in town, the Dicke Marie , is an oak near the shore of Lake Tegel.

The youth judge Kirsten Heisig died in 2010 in the Tegel forest by suicide .

On October 5, 2017, the journalist Sylke Tempel was killed by a tree that fell during the Xavier storm after leaving a vehicle . On Konradshöher Straße, six trees fell on the road over a length of only 500 meters and blocked the direct access to the Konradshöhe district.
