The castle site Schlösschen is a ground monument on the Schlossberg near Ohrdruf .

Finding

From the small one at 541.6  m above sea level. NN summit of Ohrdrufer castle hill located hilltop castle are only rampart and ditch survived. The castle hill now has a refuge, it is located on the hiking trail from the Schergeshütte to the Luisenthal stop. About 500 m west of the castle there are some springs above the Schergeshütte. In the Middle Ages, an old road, still clearly recognizable through ravines, led from Ohrdruf west past Luisenthal to the ridge of the Thuringian Forest near Oberhof . The main importance of the castle site would be assumed to be in its function as a street watchman.

history

The area around Ohrdruf formed a focus of the clearing and missionary activities of the Hersfeld monastery on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest. In the time around 1170, a settlement Wiesenrod (Vizzenrot) is mentioned in Hersfeld documents, which was assigned to the Hersfeld monastery courtyard in Gotha in 1344. It was located near a castle of the same name, which had to ensure the protection of the settlement. Lerp already connected the castle near Ohrdruf with this castle (Wiesenburg). A description of the office mentions ruins on the deserted village for 1531. An Ohrdrufer legend wants to recognize the old Thuringian Bisenburg due to the similarity of the name in the castle ruins , which is said to have protected the temple building of the pagan Thuringians on a mountain until the conquest by the Franks.
