Jana Koubková
Jana Koubková (born October 31, 1944 , Roztoky u Prahy , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech jazz singer . After Vlasta Průchová , she is one of the most innovative representatives of jazz singing in the Czech Republic. In addition, she worked as a journalist and as an organizer of cultural events, as well as an author of books.
Live and act
Koubková initially sang in children's choirs. She made a name for herself both as a singer and as a composer. For several years she taught at the State Conservatory of Music in Prague and was also successful as a presenter of her own television and radio programs. In 1981 she founded the annual “Vokaliza” festival, which also proved to be an important international venue.
As a guest musician, Koubková not only worked with musicians from the jazz scene in her home country and with Aki Takase ( Jazzperanto , 1987), but also with classical ensembles. She also led her own quartet. It is not tied to one style, but moves confidently in blues , fusion , free jazz , ethnic jazz and scat .
