The Kastorf castle wall is a Slavic castle wall in the municipality of Knorrendorf on the western bank of the Kastorfer See in the Mecklenburg Lake District .

The ground monument consists of a castle hill with a flat plateau, which is lined with trees. Wall or ditch remains are no longer present. On the northern edge of the facility, however, you can see the former access path in the form of an ascending ramp.

In 1988 excavations took place on the west bank of the lake under the direction of Volker Schmidt . A settlement from the Middle Slavic period of the 9th to 10th centuries was proven. The castle hill and this settlement existed at the same time. Since the water level of the Kastorfer See was about two meters higher in the Slav period, the castle was naturally protected like a kind of island.

The castle wall , also known as "Runne Wall" or "Alte Schanz", was the seat of a local nobleman of the time. The castle may have been built immediately after the abandonment of the old Slavonic castle on the opposite bank. One suspects the center of the Tollensian tribe in the grounds of the Kastorfer See .

Today there is a bathing area with a jetty at the ground monument.
