The Burullus Lake ( Arabic بحيرة البرلس, DMG Buḥayrat al-Burullus ) is a brackish lake in the Kafr el -Sheikh Governorate, east of Rosetta in Egypt . It is regarded as a lake and wetland area of international importance . Its inflow consists of 97% leachate from agriculture, rainwater (2%) and groundwater (1%). 16% of the water evaporates and 84% flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
According to tradition, the Holy Family stayed near this lake when they flew into Egypt .
