Burzaco is a city in the Partido Almirante Brown of the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina and belongs to the southern zone of the greater Gran Buenos Aires area and had 86,113 inhabitants in the 2001 census on an area of ​​22.77 square kilometers. The city is located about 27 km south of Buenos Aires.

history

For the first 300 years since the 17th century, Burzaco's history was shaped by agriculture. The completion of the railroad and the arrival of the brothers Eugenio and Francisco Burzaco on August 14, 1865 is considered to be the birth of the place. On June 5, 1888, at 3:20 a.m., the earthquake in the area of ​​the Río de la Plata 1888 shook the settlement.

The area gradually developed into an urban residential and commercial location. In 1916 the Biblioteca Popular Mariano Moreno was set up and in 1935 the Universidad Popular de Burzaco (adult education center) was opened. In 1965, Burzaco was officially declared a city.

Attractions

In the central Plaza General Manuel Belgrano is the Monumento a la bandera , inaugurated on July 25, 1943, in honor of the blue-white-blue national flag of Argentina.

traffic

Since 2007 the semi-state joint-stock company "Linea General Roca UGOFESA" has been entrusted with the railway operation to Burzaco and beyond. The land for the construction of the Burzaco railway station was donated to the railway company by the Burzaco brothers in the 19th century.
