Manuel Prado

Comandante Manuel Prado (* 1863, † 1932 in Rosario ), Argentina was an Argentine military and historiographer .

Life

He entered military school at the age of 11. He later became an eyewitness to the fighting on the Argentine Indian border and made his own experiences, which are reflected in his description of La guerra al Malón (The war against the Indian raids) from 1907. This includes the planning of the "Zanja de Alsina ", a fortification to ward off the attacks by the Indians, as well as the planning to expand the border under the general and later two-time president Julio Argentino Roca . He also took part in the offensives under the command of Conrado Villegas against the Indian settlements and the capture of the Kaziken Pincén in Malal . He also describes the occupation of the Indian territories from "Trenque Lauquén" to the Rio Negro , after Choele Choel to Neuquén . From 1885 Prado was stationed in Namuncurá until the end of the "Campaña del Desierto", the desert campaign .

After Comandante Prado had performed other military duties, he was retired in 1899 and lived in Burzaco . Among other things, he worked for the newspapers "La Nación", "El Diario" and "La Tribuna". He died in Rosario in 1932.
