Busan Biennale

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Busan Biennale is a Biennale for Contemporary Art in Busan , South Korea .

In January 2001 the previous Pusan International Contemporary Art Festival (PICAF) was renamed the Busan Biennale. The other spelling of the city's name corresponds to the new rules for the transcription of Korean from December 1999.

From 1981 a biennial for young artists took place in Busan (then still Pusan). The Sea Art Festival (art on the beach, since 1987) as well as exhibitions and the symposium for open-air sculpture ( Busan Sculpture Project , since 1991) were added later. The Pusan International Contemporary Art Festival , which was organized in 1998 and 2000 and is now being continued as the Busan Biennale , emerged from these forerunners .
